Heat advisory issued for parts of SLO County: ‘Take extra precautions’
Tuesday will be a scorcher on the Central Coast with high temperatures in the triple digits in parts of San Luis Obispo County, according to the National Weather Service.
People living in interior valleys in the county — including Shandon, Creston and Carizzo Plain — can expect temperatures as high as 102 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday the federal agency warned in a weather advisory.
Residents living in near San Luis Obispo County mountain areas such as Santa Margarita Mountain and the La Panza Range may encounter highs between 98 to 102 degrees on Tuesday, the advisory said.
The heat wave is also forecast to impact parts of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.
The advisory will last from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
“Overnight temperatures are also expected to be very warm,” the agency said.
People should drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and, if available, stay in an air-conditioned room, the National Weather Service said.
“Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances,” according to the advisory.
The National Weather Service advised those who work or spend time outside to “take extra precautions” by rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening. People who work outside are advised to take frequent rest breaks in a shaded or air conditioned areas and to wear lightweight and loose clothing.
“Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location,” the agency said.
