SLO County may see record heat on Thanksgiving

San Luis Obispo County residents can ditch the sweaters this week, as temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-80s in time for Thanksgiving.

According to PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey, both Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo could break heat records.

The high-pressure air ridge responsible for the heat is expected to weaken by Saturday, Lindsey said, adding that a weak cold front could produce more wind and clouds, as well as heavy drizzle and light rain showers late Saturday into Sunday.

No significant rain is expected at this time, Lindsey said.

The week after Thanksgiving could potentially see a shift to “wet and unsettled” weather for the Central Coast, but Lindsey emphasized this is a long-range forecast that could change.

In Southern California, temperatures will be warmest Wednesday, with highs 15 degrees to 20 degrees above normal in many areas, ranging from the low to mid-90s in some spots.

The weather service says the highest temperature recorded in downtown Los Angeles on a Thanksgiving Day was 90 degrees on Nov. 26, 1903. That's the same high forecast Thursday, but it could be a degree or two hotter.
