Record-breaking heat expected this week across SLO County
Here is this week’s weather forecast by PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey.
A series of storms will move into Northern California this week; however, high pressure over Southern California and the Desert Southwest will keep the Central Coast dry through Friday. This area of high pressure will continue to produce moderate to fresh (13 to 24 mph) Santa Lucia (northeasterly) winds during the overnight and morning hours, shifting out of the northwest during the afternoon hours starting Monday and continuing Friday.
Except for variable high-level clouds from time to time and a few areas of marine low clouds during the late afternoon and evening hours in the coastal regions, clear skies will persist through Friday.
The biggest story of this upcoming Thanksgiving week will be the possible record-breaking temperatures. If the weather models verify, plenty of high-temperature records in both Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo could be broken starting Tuesday and continuing through Friday as temperatures are expected to warm to the mid-80s.
Saturday will see the high-pressure ridge responsible for the potentially record-breaking temperatures weaken, which could allow a weak cold front to produce increasing southerly winds, clouds and pockets of heavy drizzle/light rain showers later Saturday into Sunday, but no significant precipitation is expected at this time.
The longer-range models are advertising a possible shift to a wet and unsettled weather pattern during the last week of November into the first week of December, but please remember these are long-range charts and will probably change.
Surf report
Monday’s 2- to 4-foot northwesterly (300-degree, deep-water) swell (with an 8- to 12-second period) will continue at this height into Tuesday. A 3- to 5-foot west-northwesterly (285-degree, deep-water) swell (with an 8- to 18-second period) will arrive along our coastline Wednesday, increasing to 5 to 7 feet (with a 5- to 15-second period) Thursday into Friday. This swell will decrease to 3 to 5 feet Saturday.
A 9- to 11-foot northwesterly (300-degree, deep-water) swell (with a 16- to 18-second period) is forecast along our coastline Sunday into next Monday.
Seawater temperatures will range between 55 and 57 degrees through Friday.

At PG&E, your safety is our first concern. Buckling up is such a simple thing to do; it only takes two seconds, and no other single action has as much life-saving potential. If more adults wore safety belts, their kids would, too. Besides, it’s the law.
