Beach hazards statement in place for Bay Area Shorelines for Friday and Saturday

The NWS San Francisco CA released a beach hazards statement at 12:33 p.m. on Thursday valid from Friday 3 a.m. until Saturday 9 a.m. The statement is for Coastal North Bay Including Point Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Northern Monterey Bay and Big Sur as well as San Francisco County.

The NWS informs, "Increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents due to long period southwesterly swell."

"Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion can be expected. Sneaker waves can sweep across the shoreline without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches," adds the NWS. "Stay off of jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous surf and NEVER turn your back on the ocean."

This statement is in effect until Saturday at 9 a.m.
