High surf advisory issued for SLO County. Here’s where waves will be largest

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for San Luis Obispo County this weekend.

The advisory is in place from Friday at 3 p.m. to Sunday at 9 a.m.

“Large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet with dangerous rip currents are expected,” the weather service said. “This creates an increased risk of ocean drowning as well as the potential for injury from breaking waves and being washed off beaches and rocks.”

The weather service advised people to stay out of the water and away from rock jetties this weekend.

The waves will be the largest on northwest facing beaches, the weather service said.

Beach erosion and “minor coastal flooding” are possible, especially during the evening high tides on Saturday and Sunday.
