Crash blocks traffic in SLO County as rain begins to fall
At least one car crash was causing traffic impacts as rainy weather stormed into San Luis Obispo County on Friday.
Two vehicles crashed on Highway 41 near Cerro Alto Road around 10:06 a.m., according to the California Traffic Incident Information Page.
The page said one vehicle sustained major rear-end damage from the crash. One vehicle was reported to be hauling a trailer filled with firewood.
As of 10:46 a.m., eastbound traffic was backed up in the area of the crash, according to the Caltrans QuickMap.
The Tribune reached out to CHP for more information on the crash, but did not immediately receive a response.
Another crash occurred Friday morning on Highway 101 near the Shell Beach Road off-ramp, the CHP page showed, but that crash was not impacting traffic as of 11 a.m.
Weekend of wet weather forecast for SLO County
Both crashes occurred as a storm system moved into the area after weeks of warm, dry weather.
According to the National Weather Service’s forecast for inland SLO County, rain was likely throughout the day Friday, with a possible thunderstorm occurring in the afternoon. About a tenth of an inch of precipitation is expected Friday.
The Tribune reported Friday that the storms could also bring a waterspout or small tornado, according to the Weather Service.
A 50% chance of rain is expected on Saturday with winds up to 25 mph. A tenth to a quarter inch of rain is expected tomorrow.
On Sunday, the weather service forecast a 70% chance of rain, again with up a tenth to a quarter inch possible.
The storm wraps up with a slight chance of lingering showers on Monday as the sun returns.
