Rockslides and debris across the road closed a portion of Highway 1 at the San Luis Obispo County line on Monday night.

According to a post on X from Caltrans District 5, a full closure of Highway 1 was in effect from Ragged Point Inn in San Luis Obispo County to a mile south of Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn in Monterey County.

Caltrans said rockslides and debris were in the road at multiple locations.

The agency said there was no estimated time of reopening.

District 5 spokesman Kevin Drabinski told The Tribune on Monday evening that crews were expected to be out “at first light regardless of weather” to perform assessments and clear the debris.
