SLO County city breaks heat record set in 1997. How hot did it get?

San Luis Obispo broke a 28-year-old heat record Thursday morning, according to PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey.

The city hit 95 degrees, breaking its daily record of 92 degrees set on the same day in 1997, Lindsey said in a post on X.

Cal Poly, meanwhile, hit 100 degrees for a brief period at 11:54 a.m., Lindsey said.

The record came amid a heat advisory in effect in San Luis Obispo until Friday at 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Paso Robles and the rest of SLO County are under an extreme heat warning until Saturday at 9 p.m.

Temperatures were expected to drop to 85 degrees on Saturday, before cooling down next week, according to the Weather Service’s forecast
