Wind advisory issued for SLO County, with gusts up to 50 mph
A wind advisory has been issued for San Luis Obispo County, with gusts up to 50 mph expected in the coastal mountains.
The National Weather Service announced the wind advisory at around noon on Sunday saying wind gusts will blow throughout southwest California.
“Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects,” the Weather Service said in the post. “Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.”
North and northeast winds anywhere from 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected from 9 p.m. Sunday evening until Monday morning, according to the advisory.
Included in the weather warning are the Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Clarita Valley, Montecito Hills, Hearst Castle and other mountain ranges across the Central Coast and greater Los Angeles area.
High surf advisory
A high surf warning was also issued by the agency early Sunday morning for San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County Central Coast beaches.
Large waves up to 8 and 12 feet were expected to hit the beaches of the two counties Sunday afternoon, according to the advisory. This surf is slightly lower than waves of 10 to 15 feet predicted for Sunday morning.
The advisory was in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to the post.
The Weather Service recommended that drivers to be extra alert of strong winds, and for swimmers and surfers to stay out of the water and off rock jetties, opting for water activity closer to lifeguard towers.
