Tornadoes, pea-sized hail could hit SLO County today, National Weather Service warns
North Coast residents are being advised to take shelter in a sturdy structure as Wednesday’s rainstorms move through San Luis Obispo County.
In a post on X, the National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for Morro Bay, Los Osos and Cayucos, warning of a small chance for tornadoes.
Until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, residents should seek shelter in a sturdy structure from pea-sized hail and winds up to 50 mph, according to the post.
According to NWS Doppler radar, a strong thunderstorm 10 miles southwest of Morro Bay was spotted moving northeast at 20 mph, bringing a “small chance of brief, weak tornadoes.”
Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs, and vegetation is susceptible to minor hail damage, the NWS forecast said.
