Following a weekend winter heat wave where temperatures in San Luis Obispo neared 90 degrees, a storm system moving toward the Central Coast is expected to bring cooler and rainy conditions this week.

There are still a few days yet to prepare for the storm: Monday and Tuesday were predicted to be warm and sunny along the Central Coast, according to the National Weather Service.

But on Wednesday, temperatures were expected to drop by about 10 degrees, the Weather Service said. High temperatures for the region were expected to be in the 60s.

An atmospheric river storm system could bring gusty winds and clouds, according to the Weather Service.

A chance of local rain was predicted beginning Wednesday afternoon. The rain could strengthen through Wednesday night into Thursday morning, lightening up through Friday, the Weather Service forecast.

It’s possible San Luis Obispo County could see 1 to 3 inches of rain between Wednesday and Friday, according to the forecast. Some south facing slopes in the county could even receive up to 5 inches of rain, the Weather Service said.
