Rain, thunderstorms headed to SLO County for the next 6 days. Here’s what’s in store

San Luis Obispo County could see several days of rainfall as a winter storm is expected to roll through California.

While flooding is predicted to occur in Northern California due to heavy amounts of rainfall over the weekend, the Central Coast likely won’t be hit as hard, according to predictions by the National Weather Service.

Rain in San Luis Obispo County was expected to start late Friday afternoon and continue through early Wednesday morning, the Weather Service said.

The heaviest rainfall may happen Friday night and Sunday night into Monday morning, according to the Weather Service. Peak rainfall rates of 0.1 inches per hour to 0.5 inches per hour could occur.

It’s likely the county could see rainfall totals over the entire weekend through Tuesday of 1 to 2 inches, with 2 to 5 inches possibly falling in the foothills and mountains, according to the Weather Service.

Residents may also hear thunder during the storm on Sunday and Monday, the Weather Service predicts.

High surf advisory issued for SLO County

Meanwhile, San Luis Obispo County beaches were under a high surf advisory in effect from 3 a.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. Sunday, issued by the Weather Service.

Breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet were possible along county beaches, and swimmers should be aware of dangerous rip currents, the Weather Service warned.

“Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers,” the Weather Service wrote in its advisory. “Since rock jetties can be deadly locations in such conditions, stay off the rocks.”
