Paso Robles shatters 13-year-old heat record. Here’s how hot it got
Paso Robles set a new high-temperature record on Saturday, hitting 112 degrees and breaking the previous record for July 15 of 108 in 2010.
The National Weather Service recorded the record high temperature at the Paso Robles Airport.
The heat wave hitting the North County was in stark contrast to the weather at the coast.
Coastal areas were nearly 60 degrees cooler, retired marine meteorologist John Lindsey noted in a tweet on Saturday.
Due to the hot weather, the Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for the Central Coast interior valleys, expected to last through 11 p.m. Monday and possibly even into Tuesday.
Saturday and Sunday were expected to be the hottest days, according to the National Weather Service. San Luis Obispo is forecast to be 81 degrees on Sunday, with Paso Robles at 105 degrees.
Temperatures will continue to cool a bit in the coming days, dropping to a high of 99 for Paso Robles on Monday, 96 on Tuesday and 94 on Wednesday, for the opening day of the Mid-State Fair.
“Dangerous heat will result in a major to extreme risk for heat-related illnesses for much of the population, especially those who are heat sensitive,” the Weather Service said in its warning.
