Excessive heat watch issued for SLO County ahead of triple-digit temperatures
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for parts of San Luis Obispo County ahead of triple-digit heat.
The agency warned of “dangerously hot conditions” with temperatures peaking Friday through Sunday.
According to the NWS, high temperatures could reach 108 degrees Fahrenheit in the Cuyama Valley, southern Salinas Valley and interior valleys of San Luis Obispo County from Thursday morning through Sunday evening.
“Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities,” the agency said.
The Weather Service encourages people who live in the affected areas to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned spaces if possible, keep out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, the agency said, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
