Heat is headed to SLO County — and temperatures could top 100 degrees
After months of cooler-than-usual temperatures, summer weather is officially returning to San Luis Obispo County — just in time for the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Some parts of the Central Coast could see temperatures hit and pass the 100-degree mark, according to the forecast by the National Weather Service, while other parts of the area will be significantly cooler.
The National Weather Service predicted the high temperature in Paso Robles on Saturday will be 103 degrees Fahreneheit — but will be more than 30 degrees cooler in Santa Maria the same day at 71 degrees.
The interior valleys of San Luis Obispo County are likely to see temperatures between 100 and 107 degrees that day, according to the agency.
Coastal areas, however, are expected to be much cooler, with fog and temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
This comes as a heat wave is expected to hit much of the state ahead of Independence Day, with daytime high temperatures peaking in the 90s and 100s, the National Weather Service warned.
Temperatures could begin dipping once again on Sunday into Monday, though they will likely still remain above average, the agency said.
