Evacuation warnings, orders lifted in SLO County. What’s next for the weather forecast?

The San Luis Obispo County Office of Emergency Services lifted the evacuation warnings and orders for residents of Oceano and Cayucos Wednesday morning as the rain tapered off after the latest atmospheric river storm hit the area on Tuesday.

The storm brought 1 to 5 inches of rain to the county, with nearly 6 inches recorded at Rocky Butte east of San Simeon and almost 4.5 inches falling Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and in Arroyo Grande.

As a result of the rainfall, Oceano residents in the area north and south of the Arroyo Grande Creek Levee and near the Oceano Lagoon were instructed to evacuate Tuesday afternoon as water levels rose across San Luis Obispo County.

In Cayucos, the evacuation warning for residents on 24th Street was also lifted, the agency said in a news release..

“Although the evacuation warning and evacuation order has been lifted, due to ground saturation and water levels in the (Arroyo Grande Creek) channel additional possibility for flooding may be expected with future storms,” the Office of Emergency Services said in the release. “The next possibility for significant rainfall is expected early next week.”

What’s next in the SLO County weather forecast?

SLO County residents can expect cloudy skies through Sunday night, with temperatures bottoming out in the mid-40s and peaking in the low 60s through most of the rest of the week, the National Weather Service forecast said.

The weekend will see higher chances of rain, with a 40% chance on Saturday evening through to Sunday morning.

Rain is also expected Monday morning or afternoon, with a 70% chance of precipitation Monday night and Tuesday morning.
