SLO County opens Disaster Recovery Center to help people impacted by storm damage
San Luis Obispo County residents will soon have a place to go with questions about storm-related disaster relief.
On Tuesday, the county will open a Disaster Recovery Center and Local Assistance, where “residents can get help applying for federal assistance and disaster loans, update applications, and learn about other resources that are available,” according to a news release from the SLO County Office of Emergency Services.
The center will be open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the San Luis Obispo Veterans Memorial Building at 801 Grand Ave., the agency said. If you need transportation to the center, call the Office of Emergency Services at 805-781-5678.
Agencies such as County Behavioral Health, Environmental Health, the Planning and Building Department, the Department of Motor Vehicles, the IRS, insurance services, the Small Business Administration, nonprofits, legal assistance, the agricultural commissioner, county assessor and county clerk-recorder will have information available at the center, the news release said.
The center will offer Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters as well, according to the agency.
The center was created by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and SLO County.
FEMA also is sending Disaster Survivor Assistance teams to neighborhoods with storm damage to help residents apply for aid.
“DSA teams wear FEMA attire and have federal photo identification badges,” the news release said.
Folks can apply for federal aid at disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-3362.
