High wind warning issued for SLO County ahead of storm. When will strongest gusts hit?
The National Weather Service issued a high wind warning for San Luis Obispo County on Sunday, hours before a powerful storm is expected to hit the Central Coast.
The warning is in effect from midnight Sunday to 10 p.m. Monday, the Weather Service said.
The agency predicted south winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph.
The strongest winds will start 7 a.m. Monday and last until 4 p.m. that evening, the Weather Service said.
“Damaging winds will blow down large objects such as trees and power lines,” the agency said in its warning. “Power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.”
The Weather Service advised people to avoid being outside in forested areas around trees and branches.
“If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows,” the agency said.
