Next storm could drop 4 inches of rain on SLO County. Here’s what’s coming

Days after a “bomb cyclone” storm left the Central Coast thouroughly drenched, San Luis Obispo County will likely get another heavy dousing of rain starting Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service, parts San Luis Obispo County could see more than 4 inches of rain between Sunday and Tuesday as another storm hits the area.

The NWS said this new storm is “looking even stronger than our recent storm” on Jan. 4 and 5. (That storm dropped more than 4 inches of rain on Rocky Butte, but the rest of the county saw closer to 2 inches across the two-day event.)

Places that could be most impacted include Cambria, where the forecast calls for 4.57 inches across those two days, and San Luis Obispo, which could see 4.04 inches, according to the forecast.

Atascadero could record 3.27 inches and Paso Robles 2.81.

“Here we go again,” meteorologist John Lindsey tweeted of the upcoming storm.

Lindsey said the “intense storm” is expected to produce winds of between 32 and 46 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. It will also produce waves of between 15 and 17 feet through Tuesday.

Meanwhile some light rain is expected across the area through the weekend, though it will likely drop only about an inch across most areas, according to the National Weather Service.
