SLO County could reach triple digits this weekend as heat wave hits California
Temperatures could reach the triple digits in parts of San Luis Obispo County this weekend, as a heat waves hits much of interior California.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat watch for inland California areas, including most of northern San Luis Obispo County. The service warned of “dangerously hot” conditions starting Friday morning, with possible high temperatures of 97 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to the weather service, extreme heat “will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.”
The watch is expected to last through Saturday evening.
Heat wave will impact high school graduation ceremonies
The heat wave hits the same weekend that many North County schools are holding outdoor graduation ceremonies.
On Tuesday, the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District announced it was changing the times of its graduation ceremonies on Thursday and Friday due to the heat.
The ceremonies for Liberty and Independence high schools will now begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, while Paso Robles High School’s ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Friday.
“We understand that this time change may create an inconvenience for some of you, and for that, we apologize,” the district said in a Facebook post. “We have made this decision to push back the start time by one hour solely for the safety and enjoyment of this momentous occasion.”
