The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory Tuesday, warning that temperatures could reach nearly freezing temperatures in parts on San Luis Obispo County.

Temperatures are expected to reach as low as 35 degrees from 3 to 9 a.m. Wednesday in the interior valleys of San Luis Obispo, which could result in frost.

The weather service warns frost can damage sensitive plants and harms pets if left unprotected.

Covering plants with sheets can help prevent any frost damage.

While it is unusual for May temperatures to reach this low, 35 degrees is not record-setting.

Temperatures reached 33 degrees in 2002 on May 11, and the record low temperature for the month occurred on May 18, 1974, with a temperature of 30 degrees.
