National Weather Service issues high wind, surf advisories for SLO County
The National Weather Service issued high surf and wind advisories Tuesday morning, and they are expected to hold through the night.
The surf advisory is in effect until 4 a.m. Wednesday along the Central Coast.
San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties may experience 10-to-12-foot-tall waves and dangerous rip currents.
The Weather Service advises community members to stay out of the water to avoid being taken out to sea by a rip current or injured by large waves. High surf and rip currents can increase risk of drowning, and may be especially dangerous near rocks and jetties, the advisory said.
The wind advisory extends across multiple counties in central and southern California, including San Luis Obispo Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties.
Central Coast cities including San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, Morro Bay, Cambria and San Simeon may experience up to 35 mph winds, with gusts stronger closer to the coast.
The wind is expected to subside by 9 p.m. Tuesday evening.
The National Weather Service urged drivers to be careful and encourages the public to secure any loose outdoor items.
