SLO County to see strong winds, frost and high surf this week, Weather Service warns
Batten down the hatches, San Luis Obispo County. The National Weather Service warned of high winds across the Central Coast on Monday.
Most of the county was under a wind advisory until 11 p.m. Monday due to high winds.
According to the National Weather Service, those regions were expected to see north to northeast winds of between 15 and 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 40 miles per hour throughout the morning. That will shift in the later afternoon to winds of between 20 and 30 miles per hour with gusts of up to 50 miles per hour.
The weather service urged drivers to be cautious on the roads and on the lookout for blowing objects, especially on Highway 1 and Highway 101.
Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result, the agency warned.
A high surf advisory was also in effect along the coast, with large breaking waves of 9 to 13 feet, according to the weather service. That advisory is in effect through Tuesday night.
Inland valleys of San Luis Obispo County, including Paso Robles and Atascadero, should also be on the lookout for frost early Tuesday morning and a potential freeze Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
PG&E power outage
About 130 customers in northern San Luis Obispo County were without power Monday, because of a PG&E public safety power shutoff due to the high winds.
The energy company shuts off power to some customers when risks of wildfires are high.
According to PG&E’s outage map, 137 customers inland from Cambria and Cayucos were without power as of 1 p.m. due to the shutoff.
