Another heat wave is on the way to SLO County. Paso Robles could hit 113 degrees

Blazing hot temperatures will return to San Luis Obispo County starting this weekend and carrying into early next week.

Temperatures are expected to reach record highs in Paso Robles on Sunday, which is forecasted to reach 113 degrees, said John Lindsey, a PG&E meteorologist. A high of 112 is predicted for Paso on Monday.

Highs are expected to reach 99 in San Luis Obispo and the low to mid-90s in the coastal communities.

The heat is being caused by a high-pressure system that is blanketing much of the Western United States, Lindsey said.

“This is one of the biggest (high-pressure bridges) I’ve seen,” he said. “It’s covering Oregon, California, Nevada and Arizona.”

Lindsey said that because of the heat, it will be important for people to conserve energy in their homes.

“Customers are urged to conserve energy from 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. Sat-Mon.,” Lindsey said in a tweet, citing the California Independent System Operation (ISO), which maintains state power grids. “Customer energy conservation can help make sure #CA has enough supply to meet demand for electricity.”

Lindsey said that using fans versus air conditioning, closing blinds to block the sun and unplugging electrical connections that aren’t needed are ways to reduce the load demand on the grid.
