A pretty sunset under clear skies over Morro Bay as viewed from Baywood Park.

The first part of the week will see windy, clear and warm to hot weather, followed by calm, overcast and cooler conditions on Thursday through the weekend.

Marine low clouds will be less widespread in the morning as a broad area of high pressure, centered over the desert Southwest, edges westward into the Central Coast. Stratus cloud cover will quickly move back to the coast later in the morning and clear from the beaches during the afternoon, leaving behind mostly sunny skies.

Sunday’s highs will range between 103 degrees in the inland valleys (Paso Robles) and 83 degrees in the coastal valleys (San Luis Obispo). The beaches will reach the low 70s, except for the southerly facing beaches of Cayucos, Avila Beach and Shell Beach which should reach the low-80s on Sunday and Monday. Minor day-to-day changes with cooler inland temperatures are expected through Wednesday.

The high-pressure ridge responsible for the warm to hot inland temperatures will retreat back to the desert Southwest, in response to an approaching low-pressure system, which will produce decreasing northwesterly winds, a deeper, more extensive marine layer and cooler temperatures on Thursday through Saturday.

Surf report

Increasing northwesterly winds will generate a 5- to 7-foot northwesterly (310-degree, deep-water) sea and swell (with a 5- to 8-second period) along our coastline on Sunday through Wednesday, decreasing on Thursday into Saturday.

Seawater temperatures will range between 51 and 54 degrees through Wednesday, Increasing to 55 to 58 degrees on Friday through Saturday.
