SLO County weather forecast for the week of June 7: Triple digits return to North County
The gale-force northwesterly winds of late spring will be relentless this week. In fact, if a “Catalina Eddy” doesn’t form in the Southern California Bight, these winds could continue into the following week.
Moderate gale-force to fresh gale-force (32 to 46 mph with gusts to 55 mph) north to northwesterly winds are forecast to develop along the coastline on Sunday. These winds will give mostly clear skies and below seasonal temperatures.
High pressure will build over the Central Coast on Monday and will produce night and morning Santa Lucia (northeasterly) winds, shifting out of the northwest and increasing to strong to gale-force (25 to 38 mph) levels during the afternoon.
This condition will create clear and dry skies and warmer weather with temperatures starting out near normal Monday then rising to around 15 and 20 degrees above normal by Wednesday.
In fact, Paso Robles is expected reach triple-digit levels while San Luis Obispo will hit the low 90s on Wednesday. These northeasterly (onshore) winds will also produce warm temperatures along the beaches during the late morning, before the northwesterly winds brings in cooler marine during the afternoon.
However, the southerly facing beaches of Cayucos, Avila Beach, Shell Beach and Pismo Beach will remain warm to hot throughout the day.
The high-pressure ridge responsible for the hot weather will weaken and the gale-force winds will remain out of the northwest throughout the day on Thursday into Saturday, which will allow areas of marine low clouds and fog to develop during the night and morning in the coastal regions and will produce cooler temperatures throughout the Central Coast.
