SLO Classical Academy celebrates ‘eclectic bunch’ of 18 grads in its Class of 2020
The San Luis Obispo Classical Academy High School is celebrating the accomplishments of 18 graduates in its Class of 2020, even as their senior year ended without many of the traditional moments thanks to the coronavirus shutdown.
“When I think of the SLO Classical Academy Class of 2020, what stands out most to me is how they do community. This is an eclectic bunch with unique interests and varied personalities, but they have figured out how to get along and make our school a kinder, friendlier place,” said high school director Kateri Rein. “They will be greatly missed, but the world needs them — their thoughtfulness, diligence, abilities to get along with others, and the many skills they have been developing during their high school years.”
From this year’s class, 10 students will be moving on to four-year universities, six will are headed to Cuesta College, one will attend Allan Hancock College, and another is taking time off.
“It’s true that this year did not turn out as expected at all. It has been a historical year, but one in which we found ourselves wrestling with sadness as we missed learning and being together and also grief at the loss of some of our traditions,” Rein added.
“Although this was an unexpected and unwelcome change, I am impressed by our seniors’ commitment to finishing strong under challenging circumstances. As we send them off to their bright futures, I want each of our seniors to know that they are a gift, and I am grateful they have been a part of our community.”
