Congressional candidates to debate in Atascadero

ORIGINAL STORY: Nine candidates running for the 24th District congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Lois Capps are scheduled to appear at a candidate forum Friday in Atascadero.

The debate is sponsored by the American Association of University Women and will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Atascadero Public Library, 6555 Capistrano Ave.

The debate is open to the public and written questions will be taken from the audience. Shirley Sommers of the Atascadero branch of the AAUW will moderate.

Candidates running for the seat are Republicans Katcho Achadjian, Justin Fareed and Matt Kokkonen; Democrats Salud Carbajal, Benjamin Lucas, Bill Ostrander and Helene Schneider; and independents Steve Isakson and John Uebersax.
