SLO County has new ‘I Voted’ stickers. See the 4 winning student designs
San Luis Obispo County has four new “I Voted” stickers to pass out to people who cast a ballot this year.
The SLO County Elections Office recently held a sticker design competition where local students submitted more than 40 artistic entries into the contest, according to a Thursday news release.
Mayors from all seven cities in the county voted on their favorites — selecting Del Mar Elementary fourth-grader Brynn Smart, Arroyo Grande High School freshman Annie Schwent, Pacheco Elementary third-grader Aurelia Shua and Abide Christian School student Sara Van Horn as the contest winners.
Smart’s sticker contains a heart-shaped American flag set on a blue background with a white banner stretching across that reads “I voted.”
Schwent’s sticker features a California quail holding a miniature American flag with a string of golden poppies bordering the bottom. At the top, it says “I Voted” in all caps.
Shua’s sticker centers a bald eagle on a red-and-white-striped background. At the top, the sticker says “yo voté,” or “I voted” in Spanish.
Van Horn’s winning design includes an American flag blowing in the wind with the text “Future Voter” in all caps.
Early voters can choose from all four of the winning stickers at the SLO and Atascadero Elections Offices starting May 4, the release said.
The stickers will also be handed out to voters at polling places across the county during the primary and midterm elections on June 2 and Nov. 3.
“The ‘I Voted’ sticker design contest is one of the most fun things we get to do,” SLO County Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano said in the release. “We love seeing students get civically involved early, and the voters really love getting to pick up one of the ‘special stickers’ each election. We get tons of requests for them.”
