There was at least one case of electioneering near a polling place in San Luis Obispo County on Monday, Clerk-Recorder Elaina Cano confirmed to The Tribune.

Paso Robles Police Department Chief Damian Nord additionally confirmed to The Tribune on Tuesday that an incident did occur at the polling place at the Paso Robles City Library.

A truck with political signs was parked at the library with a driver inside, Nord said. City and library staff reported the truck, and an officer asked the driver to leave. The driver complied and was not cited, Nord said, but was given a warning.

Electioneering, or campaigning for a political party, is prohibited within 100 feet of the entrance to a polling place under California state law.

This includes asking a person to vote a particular way, displaying a candidates name, image or logo — including signs and clothing — providing materials for or against a candidate or ballot measure, circulating petitions or blocking access and loitering near ballot boxes.
