Kenney Enney widens lead in Paso Robles school board election as results roll in
A former Paso Robles school board member appeared poised to regain his seat as special election results rolled in Friday.
As of the latest counts released Friday afternoon, Kenney Enney was leading in the race for a seat on the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District’s Board of Education by a margin of 1,060 votes, according to the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s Office and Monterey County elections office.
In the race to represent the Paso Robles district, which includes part of Monterey County, Enney had 54.42% of the vote, or 6,524 votes.
Opponent Angela Hollander had 5,464 votes, or 45.58% of the vote, the latest counts show.
The final count of San Luis Obispo County ballots will begin at 9 a.m. on May 3, according to the Clerk-Recorder’s Office. This will account for any mail-in ballots sent on or before Election Day.
It wasn’t clear Friday afternoon when the Monterey County elections office was due to complete its ballot count.
The special election was held Tuesday after Enney, who was appointed to the school board in October, was ousted by a community-led petition in December.
Petitioners said Enney was an “extremist candidate” who held viewpoints that could result in discrimination against LGBTQ+ students.
