Dawn Addis, Vicki Nohrden will face off for SLO County’s main state Assembly seat
Dawn Addis and Vicki Nohrden were the top vote-getters in the race for San Luis Obispo County’s primary California State Assembly district, according to results from the Secretary of State’s Office, and will face off in the general election in November.
As of 1 a.m. with all precincts partially reporting, Addis, a Morro Bay City Council member and Women’s March SLO co-founder, was ahead with 43.4% of the vote, followed by Nohrden with 33.4% in the race for the District 30 seat.
Five candidates are on the ballot for the seat in District 30, which stretches from Santa Cruz to the southern tip of SLO County.
Trailing behind the leaders were Democrats Jon Wizard with 10.5%, Zoë Carter with 8.5% and John Drake with 4.1%.
Nohrden is a nonprofit director and educator; Wizard is a retired firefighter and police officer who now sits on the Seaside City Council; Carter is the director of operations at the Monterey County Business Council; and Drake is a Cal Poly student.
Drake also ran in the 2021 gubernatorial recall election, while Nohrden ran for California State Senate in 2020.
Addis, a Democrat, ran unsuccessfully against Republican Jordan Cunningham in the 2020 election for the District 35 State Assembly seat.
Voters in San Luis Obispo County are represented by Districts 30 and 37 in the State Assembly. That’s a change from the election cycle of previous years when the county was part of District 35, represented by Cunningham.
In District 37, which spans from Nipomo to Santa Barbara, three candidates are running for the chance to replace Democrat Steve Bennett.
Democrat Gregg Hart will face Republican Mike Stoker in the November general election.
As of 1 a.m. with all precincts partially reporting, Hart led with 58.4% of the vote, followed by Stoker with 38% and Democrat Bruce Wallach with 3.6%.
Hart is a Santa Barbara County supervisor, Stoker is a Santa Maria small-businessman and Wallach is a writer from Goleta.
