Jen Ford won the race to retain her seat on Morro Bay’s City Council.

As of 1 a.m., with all precincts reporting, Ford held a 21-point lead with 60.5% of the vote to James Costanzo’s 39.6%.

Costanzo and Ford were both vying for the City Council seat in a special municipal election. Whoever is elected will act as a councilmember in Morro Bay until the November 2024 general election.

Ford, a business owner and co-founder of the SLO Women’s March, has acted as an incumbent councilmember for the past year.

She was appointed to fill the vacancy left by the late Robert Davis and was set to hold his seat until Tuesday’s election, where she is now running for the position.

Also running is Costanzo, a retired businessman and community volunteer.

The election night results are not final. Vote tallies are subject to change over the coming days as the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s Office processes more last-minute and provisional ballots.

Final election results could take up until early July to be certified.
