Kevin Kreowski, who challenged Pismo Beach Mayor Shelly Higginbotham in the Nov. 4 election, on Friday filed a formal request with the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder’s Office for a ballot recount.

Kreowski lost the race to Higginbotham by two votes, according to official election results.

A recount board will start working on his request at 8:30 a.m. Monday, said Tommy Gong, who will succeed outgoing Clerk-Recorder Julie Rodewald. The board will start by recounting the 2,489 mail-in ballots by hand and then see how Kreowski wants to proceed.

Gong estimated the counting will take all of Monday and part of Tuesday. The cost for one day of counting is estimated at $1,174.

Kreowski’s supporters raised $3,330 for the recount effort on online fundraising site GoFundMe.com.
