Thousands of people are expected to fill streets across San Luis Obispo County for another No Kings protest this weekend.

Four anti-fascist, pro-democracy rallies are set to take place on Saturday, March 28, in downtown San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, Grover Beach and Cambria, along with thousands of other No Kings events scheduled across the country.

Local branches of Indivisible, including Estero Bay, SLO County, Arroyo Grande, Cambria and North SLO County, and San Luis Obispo 50501 are teaming up to organize the third iteration of the No Kings march.

“This isn’t about one issue. It’s about whether we live under the rule of law or under authoritarian rule,” Indivisible organizers said in a news release. “Right now it’s our immigrant neighbors and their families being terrorized and torn apart, detained in private detention camps run for profit, and killed in our streets. People losing basic healthcare. Political opponents threatened with imprisonment.”

The peaceful, nonviolent events will range from sidewalk marches to car rallies and community gatherings, the release said.

Here is everything you need to know about when and where protests will be taking place in SLO County.

What to expect at SLO County protests

In San Luis Obispo, the No Kings gathering will start with a 45-minute rally featuring speakers and music, followed by a sidewalk march beginning at the San Luis Obispo Superior Courthouse steps.

Osos Street will be shut down to traffic for two blocks from Palm to Higuera streets, and Monterey Street will be closed for two blocks from Morro Street to Santa Rosa.

The Fremont Theater will have hard barricades around it to keep people from getting too close to the construction site, San Luis Obispo Police Department spokesperson Christine Wallace told The Tribune.

She urged participants to use downtown parking garages or take alternative forms of transportation to get to the rally.

In Atascadero, the event will start with a protest and car rally at El Camino Real and Morro Road, followed by a march through downtown Atascadero at 11 a.m., the release said.

At noon, there will be a community gathering featuring singing and music at the Sunken Gardens.

Around 2,000 to 3,000 participants are expected at the Atascadero No Kings march. Central Coast Congressman Jimmy Panetta will also be in attendance, according to an Indivisible news release.

Grover Beach will have a peaceful sidewalk rally at 10 a.m. Saturday.

“Bring your creative signs, a friend, chants. Let’s make democracy visible,” the release said.

Over in Cambria, organizers encouraged No Kings participants to brings their signs, props and voices to a singing and music gathering at 3 p.m.
