Grover Beach recalled a City Council member. Now, here’s how it plans to fill the seat
Grover Beach is in the market for a new city councilmember — and that includes you.
Following the successful recall of District 2 City Council member Dan Rushing in the Nov. 5 election, Grover Beach will fill the District 2 seat by appointment, according to a news release from the city.
“I invite all District 2 residents who are passionate about our community to apply for this opportunity to serve on the City Council during this exciting time for Grover Beach,” newly elected Grover Beach Mayor Kassi Dee said in the release. “This is a great opportunity to have a chance to make an immediate impact in our community. We’re eager to work with someone who shares our passion for public service.”
The Nov. 5 election results were officially declared valid at Monday’s Grover Beach City Council meeting, where the council provided direction to fill the vacant seat by appointment.
Filling vacant seats by appointment was most recently used to appoint now-former District 3 City Councilmember Zach Zimmerman following the resignation of Anna Miller from the seat.
To apply for the vacant seat, applicants must be a resident and registered voter in District 2 in Grover Beach, according to the release.
Applications must be submitted online or in-person by Jan. 3 at 5 p.m.
The City Council will review submitted applications at its Jan. 13 meeting, during which the council will conduct interviews of interested applicants.
Following candidate interviews, the individual appointed by the council will be sworn in to hold the office of the unexpired period of Rushing’ term, which runs through December 2026, according to the release.
In addition to the District 2 Council seat, the city was also accepting applications for a vacancy on the Parks, Recreation & Beautification Commission created by the election of the Dee, who previously served as the commission chair.
