Gibson was elected president of the organization by fellow county supervisors on Nov. 16, the release said.

Gibson has represented District 2 on the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors since 2006. He also previously served as the first and second president of the California State Association of Counties.

“The next year, as an election year, has the potential to seismically shift our state and nation,” Gibson said in the release. “As CSAC president, I want to emphasize the commitment and skill our members have in serving all Californians and our shared vision of communities that thrive.”

The goal of the California Association of Counties is to “significantly improve the fiscal health of all California counties so they can adequately meet the demand for vital public programs and services,” its website said.
