Fort Worth police found more than 70 snakes at a home Saturday night where a man died.

More than 70 snakes were found Saturday night in a home in Fort Worth, Texas, where a man was found dead, police said.

Police believe the man whose name has not been released may have died from medical problems.

The snakes were discovered in appropriate carriers in the home, police said.

Police received a report of a deceased person about 10:30 p.m. Saturday.

A friend of the victim had called police after going to the home to check on him, police said. The friend knew the man had been suffering an illness.

After they arrived on the scene, police discovered the snakes in the home.

“It does not seem that the snakes were all over the home,” Officer Tamara Pena said in an email Sunday. “Family members arrived and took custody of the snakes.”

Animal control officers also were called to the scene.
