President Donald Trump will address the nation this week

President Donald Trump will address the nation at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, July 16, he announced on social media.

Trump did not give a topic for the speech, and the White House did not say what the president will discuss.

Radio host Hugh Hewitt asked Trump for a preview, and the president said it would be similar to recent speeches he gave at Mount Rushmore on July 3 and the National Mall on July 4 for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

"It's just going to be a speech like a lot of my speeches," Trump said. "We do pretty well in that regard."

The announcement comes amid renewed fighting in Iran, during an election season that could result in his Republican Party losing seats in Congress, and after the death of ally Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Major broadcast news networks usually carry presidential addresses, and livestreams are available at WhiteHouse.gov and on the White House's YouTube page.
