22-year-old killed when he and girlfriend are attacked in their home, Illinois cops say
A knife-wielding man attacked a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend in their home and fatally stabbed the boyfriend, Illinois police said.
The accused attacker, identified as 23-year-old Alex Muanambta, stabbed the couple in the early hours of March 22 and fled the scene, Champaign police said in a news release. Muanambta was known to both the man and woman, according to police.
After they were stabbed, the couple ran outside to get help, police said. When first responders arrived, they treated the girlfriend and took her to the hospital.
Police said she is in critical condition. The boyfriend was identified as Nathan Gudeman, according to a news release from the Champaign County coroner’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gudeman’s mother said he had been dating his girlfriend, who is also 22, for six years, according to a GoFundMe.
Gudeman’s autopsy is scheduled for March 24, the coroner’s office said. The coroner’s office and police are continuing to investigate.
Muanambta was arrested at a home in Rantoul and was charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, police said.
