64-year-old woman walking with cane is gunned down in street, Pennsylvania cops say
A 64-year-old woman walking with a cane was gunned down in a Philadelphia street, and police are looking for the person responsible, Pennsylvania news outlets report.
The shooting happened at about 3 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, on Philadelphia’s southwest side, police told KYW.
Nearby officers heard the sound of gunfire, arrived “within seconds,” and found the woman lying in the street “surrounded by shell casings,” the outlet reported. Officers found a cane underneath the collapsed woman in Kingsessing.
She was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead a short time later, police told the station.
The killing doesn’t appear random or accidental, and investigators believe the woman was targeted, WTXF reported.
She was a half-mile from her home when an unknown male approached and fired 11 shots, hitting her multiple times in her back and torso, police told the outlet.
The suspect fled the scene before officers showed up, WPVI reported. A search is on for the killer and an investigation is underway.
“We don’t have a motive for the shooting,” Chief Inspector Scott Small told the outlet. “The only information we got from a witness is that the shooter was wearing all dark clothing, and was last seen running on foot eastbound on Greenway from 52nd Street.”
