A U.S. Postal Service employee was arrested after she was accused of stealing people’s credit cards from the mail, Georgia authorities said.

Bianca Wheat, 38, remains in jail on charges of felony card theft, identity theft fraud and conspiracy to commit a crime in the monthslong scheme, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by McClatchy News.

Police said Wheat was working as a mail carrier in Kennesaw when she’s accused of swiping credit cards from at least two residents on her route.

She took a woman’s Capital One credit card Oct. 29 and used the victim’s personal information to activate it, according to the warrant. Investigators said she then handed the stolen card off to someone else, who added the victim’s card information to PayPal.

Funds from the woman’s credit card were transferred into the account, police said.

Between Jan. 15 and Jan. 19, Wheat allegedly stole another credit card — this one, an American Express, according to police.

The cardholder had informed delivery and was notified that her new credit card was scheduled to arrive soon, authorities said. It never came but had somehow been activated.

Police said the missing card was later used on a $2,319.55 purchase at a Neiman Marcus store.

“Surveillance footage showed a male subject with said card in hand at the register,” according to the affidavit.

Wheat was arrested Feb. 14 on various felonies. They are:

  • Financial transaction card theft (2 counts)
  • Identity theft fraud when using/possessing identifying info concerning a person (2 counts)

  • Conspiracy to commit a felony (2 counts)

Wheat remained in custody at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond as of Feb. 19, online records show. It’s not clear if she’s still employed with the U.S. Postal Service.

Kennesaw is about a 30-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.
