Man upset by fight with girlfriend randomly shoots at kid’s birthday party, TX cops say
Gunfire interrupted a child’s birthday party in Texas when police say an “upset” man targeted a home at random and started shooting.
The shooting happened at a home on San Antonio’s north side at around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, the San Antonio Police Department said in a news release.
According to police, the 24-year-old man got into an argument with his girlfriend at a bar on St. Mary’s Strip — a popular entertainment district close to the scene.
He left the bar and drove a short distance before parking near a house where about 20 people were gathered, celebrating a child’s birthday, police said. The man pulled out a handgun and “began shooting randomly from his vehicle” at the house, firing between 8 to 12 shots.
“Multiple calls indicated that the suspect’s vehicle was still in the area and was being followed by witnesses,” police said. “A traffic stop was conducted and the suspect was arrested without incident.”
Officers recovered the pistol used in the shooting and the man, who police have not publicly identified, was arrested on charges of deadly conduct, driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a firearm, according to police — though more charges may be coming.
No injuries were reported and an investigation is ongoing.
