DUI suspect caught at liquor store — after driving through front door, Florida cops say
A pickup truck made a dramatic entrance at a Florida liquor store when it drove through the double doors and kept going, a photo shows.
It happened around sunset Thursday, Jan. 30, at Hawthorne Liquor in Hawthorne, about a 70-mile drive southwest from Jacksonville.
“Upon arrival, deputies located a single vehicle sitting inside the showroom,” the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. “The damage caused ... is estimated to be approximately $20,000.”
The 73-year-old driver was at the scene when deputies arrived, and they suspected something oddly coincidental about the crash.
A sobriety test revealed the driver was under the influence of something and he was arrested and charged with DUI, officials said.
Investigators did not report if anyone was injured ... or whether any shoppers witnessed the crash.
Video of the pickup inside the store was posted on social media not long after the crash, with some noting the town had a “new drive-through liquor store.”
