‘Fun-loving’ man’s death unsolved years later. Now, a $100,000 reward, MT officials say
Michael “Mike” Evans was a hardworking and fun-loving guy, his obituary said, and nearly three years after his still-unsolved killing, officials in Montana are hoping for new information.
They’re increasing the reward to up to $100,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for his death in February 2022, according to a Jan. 30 announcement on Facebook from Great Falls/Cascade County Crimestoppers.
Then 40 years old, Evans was killed east of Great Falls at a site that was the former home of the Bar S Supper Club, the announcement said. His death happened between the morning of Feb. 13 and the evening of Feb. 14, 2022, officials said. They didn’t specify how he was killed.
In a Facebook video in February 2024, when the reward was $10,000, Cascade County Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said detectives “have worked diligently on this case” and “now have persons of interest.”
“We know that these individuals are in our community, and we know they know the details about Mike’s death. It is time to come forward with that information. It is time to stop protecting these suspects. Mike’s family misses him dearly and they would like to put this horrible chapter of their life to rest, and Mike Evans and his family deserve justice,” Slaughter said at the time.
In an online obituary, Evans was described as “an integral part of the family business” who “worked hard to continue the family legacy of the Bar S Supper Club.”
He “was a hard worker and fun-loving guy up until his untimely passing,” according to the obituary, which noted his passion for the University of Montana Grizzlies and love for cooking.
His personality “made the Bar S feel like family and a second home to many,” the obituary said, adding that, “We pray for justice for Michael Evans.”
Great Falls is about a 165-mile drive northeast from Missoula.
