A dog who’s the living embodiment of the word “adorable” is now available at a Texas shelter after a month of recuperating from a scary situation.

Cody, a now 2-month-old puppy, is a terrier mix who seemed to have a rough start in life when at the end of December he found himself in a precarious place — inside a storm drain.

“A sweet terrier mix puppy now named Cody was saved after being trapped in a Pearland storm drain,” the Houston Humane Society said in a Dec. 30 Facebook post. A couple heard its cries and called the Pearland Fire Department who worked tirelessly to bring the pup to safety.”

The canine was transferred to the Humane Society to get checked out.

The post continued: “After the rescue, the City of Pearland — Animal Services cared for Cody, warming him up and assessing his needs before transferring him to the Houston Humane Society Animal Clinic so he could receive immediate veterinary care.”

Although Cody was injured, it was not dire. The shelter noted that he was not microchipped, so after healing, he’d be put up for adoption.

“We’re extremely grateful for the quick response from first responders in getting the puppy to safety and working with us to make sure he receives the necessary medical treatment to recover and feel better,” shelter director Aaron Grady said in the post. “We’re hoping to reunite the puppy with his family. If not, we’re here to provide the safe shelter and support he needs on his journey to finding a loving forever home.”

The Humane Society announced Jan. 27 that Cody is ready to find a family of his own after spending the cold winter days in a foster home.

“This little fighter has been through so much and is ready to start the next chapter of his life with a family who will give him all the love and care he deserves,” the shelter said in another Facebook post.

Cody’s pet profile describes him as a “cuddly pup” with captivating crystal blue eyes and a playful personality.

“He may be a little skittish at first but quickly warms up to new friends. He loves to be with people and cuddled next to the fire or under a blanket,” his profile says. “He loves to sit on laps and and fall asleep ... or request more play time.”
