Christmas decorations, mail stolen from storm-damaged homes in Florida, deputies say
A woman is accused of stealing Christmas decorations and mail from empty, storm-damaged homes in Florida, deputies said.
Carol Campbell, 38, was caught lurking around abandoned homes in Pasadena on Sunday, Dec. 15, after an owner of one of the homes reported seeing a “suspicious” vehicle in their driveway, according to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office affidavit.
When deputies arrived at the residence, Campbell walked out from behind the backyard fence, “made eye contact” with a deputy and drove away, the affidavit said.
As she was leaving the neighborhood, deputies stopped her and searched her vehicle, finding she had taken mail and personal identification from more than five people, according to the affidavit.
Deputies said Campbell “admitted to stealing U.S. postal mail” from multiple homes in the neighborhood.
Credit cards, drugs, drug paraphernalia and a shopping bag filled with Christmas decorations and ornaments were also found in the woman’s vehicle, the affidavit said.
According to authorities, Campbell stole the holiday decorations from a storage container in the driveway of one of the homes.
Campbell is charged with three counts of burglary, unlawful possession of personal identification and three other drug-related offenses, according to booking records.
She is being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a bond of over $84,000, records show.
