FedEx employee steals $12,000 in jewelry from package and sells it, Tennessee cops say

A FedEx employee stole $12,000 worth of gold and diamond jewelry from a package at work, then she sold it, Tennessee authorities said.

Hannah Davis, 26, is now charged with theft between $10,000 and $60,000 and was booked in jail Dec. 12, Shelby County records show.

McClatchy News could not immediately reach an attorney for Davis listed in court documents.

Davis stole the items at FedEx’s Memphis hub shortly before midnight April 25, a detective with the Memphis International Airport Police Department wrote in an arrest affidavit.

The next day, she went to a Memphis jewelry store and sold multiple gold necklaces and a “unique” diamond pendant with a trademark, police said.

But the Memphis jewelry store representative grew suspicious and contacted the company whose trademark was on the pendant, only to learn the items belonged to that company and were supposed to be delivered through FedEx, the detective said.

FedEx began investigating and saw Davis with the package at the same time it was scanned, according to police.

“The safety and security of our customers’ shipments is a top priority, and we have fully cooperated with law enforcement in its investigation,” FedEx said in a statement to McClatchy News. “Any further questions on this matter should be directed to them.”
