‘Really fat’ bear ‘takes the cake’ of fat bears in CO — and ‘probably ate the cake’ too
An exceptionally fat bear caught the attention of Colorado wildlife officials just before bears start to go into hibernation, photo and videos show.
“We thought we had seen really fat Durango bears before. But this one takes the cake,” Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southwest Region said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It also probably ate the cake. Every cake.”
A photo shows the rotund bear on what looks like a wildlife camera. A video shows it sitting on the ground and gazing around aimlessly.
“When he sits, how does he not just roll over?” officials said in the Oct. 18 post.
Two more videos show the bear foraging around on the ground for food.
“Genuinely need to know how much more this black bear thinks he needs to eat before finding a den this year?” officials said. “He’s a thicc boi!”
After gorging themselves throughout the fall, bears start hibernating in Colorado in November when the food supply dwindles, according to the agency’s website.
People in the comments shared their delight over the bear’s hulking frame.
“Omg, it’s going to explode!” someone said.
“He looks like he’s ready for a long winter’s nap,” another person said.
Someone else simply said what others were likely thinking: “What a chonk.”
