Tow truck driver run over trying to stop theft in co-worker’s vehicle, KY company says
A tow truck driver was run over outside his workplace in an act his Kentucky company says was intentional.
The driver, identified by WLKY as Chris Skaggs, was returning to the Suburban Towing lot in Louisville around 1 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, when he noticed someone rummaging through his co-worker’s personal vehicle, the towing company said in a Facebook post.
Skaggs tried to stop the man, and they were involved in an altercation before the man fled with a female accomplice, according to Suburban Towing.
“It is never advisable to approach a crime in the act, but ... Chris feels strong about his brothers in towing and jumped immediately in to help,” the company said.
As the driver sped off, he ran over Skaggs, the company said. WLKY reported he was struck by the truck and again by a trailer it was pulling.
Suburban Towing’s safety manager Kyle Goff told WDRB the driver swerved toward Skaggs, then fled the scene.
“This was intentionally done,” Goff told the outlet.
Another co-worker came upon the scene and called for help, the towing company said.
Skaggs said he “would’ve been dead” had it not been for his co-worker who came to his aid, WLKY reported. He told the station he has a broken nose, broken bone behind his ear and scratches.
“He would do anything and ultimately that’s what this was, he was helping a fellow brother out,” Goff told WDRB. “Ultimately, he’s alive, and that’s the main thing.
Suburban Towing described the truck as a midnight blue Ford F-150 with a crew cab and a short bed pulling a dolly.
The Louisville Metro Police Department is investigating the incident, WAVE 3 reported. No arrests have been announced as of Sept. 24.
